Living in the Florida Keys comes with an extraordinary lifestyle, but property owners also need to prepare for interruptions to electrical service. For homeowners and businesses that want backup power available automatically, a standby generator in the Florida Keys may be worth considering.
🔴 Power Outages Are More Than an Inconvenience
Severe weather is one obvious cause of outages. However, Gary’s Plumbing & Fire notes that outages in the Keys also happen for other reasons.
When the power goes out, air conditioning, refrigeration, security systems, and lighting all stop with it. A permanently installed backup system keeps those essentials running.
⚡ How Does a Standby Generator in the Florida Keys Work?
A portable gasoline generator needs someone to position it, fuel it, and start it. An automatic standby generator instead sits permanently outside the property.
Gary’s Plumbing & Fire installs Kohler® home standby generators that run on natural gas or propane. Because the unit senses the outage itself, it starts automatically even when the property owner is away.
That automation can be particularly valuable for Florida Keys residents who own seasonal homes or spend time away from their properties.
🏠 What Can a Backup Generator Power?
The answer depends on the generator, property, electrical system, and desired backup loads.
A properly designed system can back up the equipment that matters most. That usually means air conditioning, security systems, lighting, refrigeration, and other selected loads.
This is why professional evaluation is important before choosing a standby generator for a Florida Keys property.
📏 Sizing a Standby Generator for a Florida Keys Property
Bigger isn’t automatically better.
Gary’s explains that its technicians evaluate each property’s specific power requirements before recommending a generator. An undersized unit may not provide enough power for the desired loads, while unnecessarily oversizing a system can add avoidable expense.
Professional sizing helps match generator capacity to the property’s actual backup-power needs.
🏢 Backup Power Isn’t Just for Homes
A standby generator in the Florida Keys can be just as valuable for a business as for a residence.
Power interruptions can affect refrigeration, security, communications, air conditioning, computers, lighting, and other systems businesses depend on.
Gary’s provides both residential and commercial generator services and is an authorized Kohler® generator dealer. Its generator service area extends from Key Largo to Key West.
🔧 Don’t Forget Generator Maintenance
A standby generator is emergency equipment, so installation is only part of the equation. Regular professional maintenance helps ensure the system remains ready for operation when an outage occurs.
Gary’s provides both generator installation and maintenance services for Florida Keys customers.
📞 Is a Standby Generator Right for Your Florida Keys Property?
The right answer depends on your property, electrical requirements, fuel availability, and budget. It also depends on which systems you want running during an outage.
